Ok, they weren't the REAL Oscars, they were the Calgary Oscars! A first annual fundraising event put on by The Green Learning Academy who is raising money to build a new school that is so needed for them to extend their services to more children. Various businesses were nominated in a wide range of categories and votes were tallied for the awards. Aside from the awards there was the papparazzi, , the red carpet, delicious food and wine and a chocolate fountain! If you missed this year's event make sure you get on their mailing list for next year. Visit the Green Learning Academy's website at http://www.greenlearning.com/ or call 403 873-1966 to make a donation towards a wonderful cause. I had the honour of photographing the glamour and glitz of the red carpet.

Reading is Miranda's passion. She and Tamera go back to kindergarten. Now that is a true friend! I'm sure they have been through lots together and will be there for each other in this new life of adulthood. With friends like that one doesn't need best wishes but I will make them anyway. The last images to post are those of the group. By then we were all tired and I hope the girls will be back for an outdoor session once the weather warms up so we can capture their relationships on camera.
Laurel loves sketching and photography so we did a little bit of tech talk during her session! Laurel's quiet nature comes through in her images but a sense of complexity is also very strong. She may have a tough time deciding which direction to follow in life as I sense she will have many options and interests. You go girl!

Andrea and Tamera have been friends since grade nine so it was great she could come for the fashion photo session Tamera set up. Andrea loves style and dresses and moves like a model with ease in front of the lens. My poodle, Mozart was thrilled to pose with her as he tries to be in all the portraits taken at the studio. All the best Andrea!
Tamera and her friends had their make up done at the studio for their fashion photo session to commemorate graduation and the start of a new life. Tamera loves drama, music and art. She has a flare all her own and I wish her all the best in her future endeavors! Keep watch - more to follow.

One always learns from every workshop, every seminar, every session and every subject photographed. But one also learns from being on the other side of the camera. It is important to remember how it feels to have your photograph taken and to learn how other photographers put people at ease. So, in these images I am the subject not the photographer. Instructor Anthony Cava of Photolux Studios in Ottawa took the photo of me against the blue wall and Friend and Photographer Linda Senychych of Photography by Linda, Calgary took the rest of the images.

Destination weddings have really taken off! And most savy couples hire a photographer they trust rather than going with one that may be available through the resort. We learned from the best how to handle bright mid day sun and how to create beautiful light where there may be none, like in a reception or at night.
